Jennifer Barry received her BA from Connecticut College, and her MSW from Simmons College. Jennifer held various positions in social work, including therapist and psychiatric crisis clinician. After a ten year career, a friend suggested she read Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand, stating "it's all about" her job. This book inspired Jennifer to quit social work, and she entered the private sector.

Her research into the tech bubble and fiat currency led her to precious metals. Impressed with the supply and demand fundamentals for silver, Jennifer decided to focus on silver. She founded Lone Star Silver Exchange in 2002, and launched the Discount Silver Club in 2003 to better serve customers on the internet.
